We are living in a simulated reality, dominated by an endless loop of desires, and by conditioned, limited means of production to make enough money to fulfill them. This simulation is not just about technology, but about how human society has been programmed, generation after generation, to chase, consume, and repeat. You are born into it without consent, and every system around you is designed to keep you inside it.

By the time you get a taste of your wishlist, you feel like creating a new list because the old list is now out of trend. The cycle is quick, almost mechanical. A product, an experience, a relationship, you wanted it so badly until you got it. Then, within days or months, it loses its shine.

Why?

Because the collective attention has moved on. When you flex about what you achieved, you are no longer getting more claps for it, and that makes you feel sad. But your mind, trained by years of this conditioning, comes up with a new plan, putting you on the same old path you once walked to achieve something you wanted then. Now you are walking on a new path to achieve something you want now, not realizing it is still the same path, only with a different signboard.

What you wanted then was not yours. What you want now is not yours. It is just Maya(Deceptive Nature) playing its game, keeping you deeply immersed in it, while boosting your ego, which always assures you that you are doing absolutely fine in life. Maya is clever. It will give you enough wins to keep you hooked, enough struggles to keep you chasing, and enough illusions to make you think you are in control.

Now you have social media, which works as a tool to justify even your most questionable actions, because it will always match you with a large section of society that acts like you. This is how justification works. When you feel guilty or unsure about an action, you instinctively look for external proof that it is “normal.” Social media makes this too easy. In seconds, you can find people flaunting the same habits, spending the same way, speaking the same way, and living the same way you do. They make enough money, they fit into the template of wealthy men, and that is enough for you to justify getting into all kinds of morally wrong paths to chase desires that make you feel superior among a random group of people you have never met.

All you know about them is from their posts, carefully curated highlight reels. They might be lying, exaggerating, or omitting the darkest parts of their life, but you still get drawn into the manipulation loop of social media algorithms. These algorithms are not neutral. They are engineered to amplify your emotions, especially the ones easiest to monetize, lust, anger, greed, desire, ego, envy. Every scroll feeds them more data, and in return, they feed you more of what keeps you locked in. You unconsciously prepare yourself to be manipulated while trying to manipulate others through your actions.

One day, when you burn out after chasing all those desires, when you feel lost, when your mind and body cannot take the load anymore, you seek an escape. Burnout is not just exhaustion, it is the soul’s way of telling you it can no longer pretend the game is worth playing. You try to justify that you did enough, that you earned a break, that your suffering was worth it. You tell yourself, “Now I will focus on something higher.”

Now you seek validation from another source, one that will never question your actions, but one you can trust to take all your sorrow. As you can no longer bear it, you want freedom from that sorrow. So you chase a new desire, the desire to meet divinity, the act of being spiritual. This desire feels purer, but often it is still desire.

That journey takes you into a dark tunnel where everyone is trying to offer you a light. But the moment you get closer to the light, it loses its charm, and it becomes dark again. This is the dangerous phase, when your longing for spiritual relief is at its peak, but your awareness is still clouded. You keep walking from one source of light to another, mistaking glow for truth.

People who offer light call themselves spiritual gurus or masters. They offer you liberation as a service. Most of these gurus are considered gurus simply because they belong to a certain community of saints or wear certain types of clothes. In this marketplace of enlightenment, packaging matters more than depth. But can you really validate that they are enlightened enough to show you the right path?

You may guess. You may find people saying a particular guru changed their life, and that he or she can change yours too. Even a trained monkey can show the right direction to one person out of a thousand without knowing the right path itself. Some guesses come true only because of the law of probability. And while you are vulnerable, while you are seeking, you are also the easiest to mislead.

The majority of the older generation in countries like India live on the placebo effect of spirituality. They feel good when they follow certain rituals or listen to the same wisdom from popular saints. Placebo here means that the action feels healing, but it is not necessarily transforming their core self. The relief is temporary, often surface-level. But the rest of the time, they are driven by negative emotions like anger, jealousy, greed. Their life does not get even a one percent positive impact from what they spend time on, because they are being spoon-fed. They follow blindly and do not ask questions.

You cannot really find a spiritual path if you cannot question

But question whom? Those gurus? They will quote Sanskrit verses and interpret them in their own way, based on centuries-old contexts that you cannot relate to, especially if you are young, aware, and an educated internet native. This is the information symmetry gap in spirituality. The teacher holds the keys, but speaks in codes you cannot fully understand. You cannot even fully understand what is written in many ancient scriptures, and the way these are explained by spiritual people often goes over your head. Without a bridge between the old and the new, you remain a visitor at the door of wisdom, never stepping inside.

You need someone who can guide you in spirituality in a language you can understand. Someone who can translate not just the words, but the essence.

You do not need to follow the blind footsteps of your parents. I know some of those rituals do not make sense to you. You are not rebelling against tradition, you are searching for meaning.

You are not even sure what the right way is, as everyone shares different advice. Everyone around you tries to be philosophical, but most are just justifying their own minds. Some of it might make sense to you. Most of it will not.
